When choosing a car safety is the most important feature. Here are the top five safe vehicles in showrooms today:
First, in the large luxury category, is the Lincoln MKS. Priced from about $41,200 to $48,100, it gets an 24mpg on the road and 17mpg in town. Six airbags, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, brake assist, post crash alert system, traction control and stability control are all standard.
Second, in the mid-size category is the Mercedes C-Class Ranging in price from about $33,600 to $57,300, this luxury automobile gets 26mpg on the highway and 18mpg in town. Safety features included are four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, stability and traction control systems, active anti-whiplash front head restraints, front side-impact airbags and overhead curtain airbags for front and rear occupants.
Honda Civic 4-door represents excellence in the small car category. Price starts at $15,400, but can reach $25,400. This small marvel gets an incredible 34mpg on the highway and an astounding 26mpg in the city. Anti-lock brakes, active front head restraints, tire pressure monitoring and six airbags are standard on all Civic models.
For the mid-size van category, the Volvo XC60 stands tall. It is priced from about $32,400 to $37,200. Gas mileage is about 27 mpg on the highway and 18 in the city. The XC60 can react at low speed to help prevent or reduce rear-end collisions because of a new safety feature called ?City Safety?. Electronic stability with roll control, trailer stability assist, four-wheel anti-lock brakes and six airbags are also standard equipment. The Volvo XC90 must also be mentioned as being as good in from a safety standpoint, but about $10,00 more in sticker price.
Nissan Frontier represents the small truck category. Prices start at about $17,500 and range up to $29,800. It sports an average mpg of 23 on the road and 19 in the city. Safety features that are standard, are four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, dual front, a tire pressure monitor, front side-impact and overhead curtain airbags and active anti-whiplash front head restraints. Available on some 2010 models is Nissan?s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) electronic stability control system, including integrated traction control.
The Suzuki Equator must also be mentioned in this category, because safety tests were as good as for the Nissan Frontier. Ranging in price from $17,500 to $28,800 it also gets 23 highway and 19 city mpg. It boasts front, side, and curtain overhead airbags, ventilated anti-lock brakes and tire pressure monitor system.
